The ASHRAE Winter Conference 2024, hosted in the city of Chicago, Illinois, USA, from January 20 to 24, witnessed a resounding success for ASHRAE Region XIV. The conference served as a platform for representatives from all Chapters and Regions of ASHRAE to converge, connect, and share ideas. We are delighted to share some remarkable achievements and highlights that made this conference truly memorable for the ASHRAE Region XIV.
One outstanding accomplishment came from the students at Loughborough University, from ASHRAE Region XIV, who clinched the first prize in the prestigious ASHRAE SETTY Family Foundation Net Zero Energy Design competition. This global competition featured universities from around the world, and the innovative approach and dedication displayed by the Loughborough University team secured them this well-deserved victory. It’s a testament to the commitment to excellence fostered within our Region.
Similarly, students from the University of Sheffield, also from ASHRAE Region XIV, secured the top spot and received accolades in the ASHRAE HVAC System Design competition. Their remarkable achievements underscore the dedication of our Region to its students, highlighting the emphasis on and promotion of Student Activities. Congratulations are in order for all the students, their mentors, and their respective Chapters for this outstanding accomplishment.
The ASHRAE Winter Conference also welcomed a significant number of students and Student Branch Advisors from ASHRAE Region XIV who travelled across the Atlantic to attend the event. A total of 23 students and advisors from Loughborough University, the University of Sheffield, and the University of Central Lancashire added an international flair to the conference, enriching the experience for everyone involved.
In another momentous announcement, we are proud to share that our former Director and Regional Chair (DRC), Andrés Sepúlveda, and Prof. Hartwig M Kuenzel, have been bestowed with the prestigious Fellowship distinction. This honour is granted to those members of the Society and professionals who have significantly contributed to and excelled in the HVAC&R sector throughout their professional careers. Their contributions in research, training, project management, and overall excellence have earned them the distinguished title of ASHRAE Fellow Members. Heartfelt congratulations to both Andrés Sepúlveda and Prof. Hartwig M Kuenzel for this well-deserved recognition.
